Christmas Trip in Prague (1)

During the time in the UK, besides studying, occasionally I do like to travel and eating around with friends.   One year in December, I with three of my friends departing from the Newcastle, United Kingdom fly all the way to Prague. I feel very excited. My only impression to Prague was one of the Jolin's song: 布拉格廣場(Prague Square), and I was much looking forward to experience the "Prague square".

Prague is the capital and largest city of Czech Republic, located at the center of Europe. It has about 10,28 million of population.

We wake up at 7am to prepare ourselves, and the plane took off at 9.45am. We reached there about 1 pm. This is my first time I stay in Western country's hotel --RottHotel, located at the center of the city, quite convenient indeed. Hotel room is very tidy, simple but clean. One thing to mention there is no kettle in the room, and no preparation of mineral water. It was kind of strange, because usually hotels do have a kettle, plus some tea bags, coffee, and mineral water to the guests.

As we had arrived at the hotel, but since my friends feel tired, would like to get some rest before going around, so I thought wanted to make myself a cup of noodles (cup noodle, which I brought from home). No kettle, what should we do? Then I went to the hotel's restaurant, and request some hot water from the waiter.  The waiter looks a bit puzzled, took a coffee cup fill in some hot water from the coffee machine.

After some rest, we started walk around at nearby. Local residents are not fluent in English, so there will be a little difficult in communication. Fortunately we found many Asian tourists. However, in order to draw customers' attentions, some of the hotels, restaurants and specially those stalls and shops' staff speak some simple English and Chinese, I even heard someone greet me in Japanese! We had our dinner in the U Stare Pani Hotel restaurant.
As we had walk whole day, we feel a little thirsty, so we thought to order glasses of water. When the waiter heard it, he looked puzzled, and had double confirmed our orders. After a while, the waiter serve us glasses of water with a small plate under the it, one the plate there is two small bag of sugar. I was wondering, and smile.

Actually, I guess because of the cold weather, the local people drink wine to keep themselves warm, so they seldom drink plain water as us do.

Marudi – a beautiful town

Marudi is a riverine town located at the north of Sarawak and nearby the border of the country of Brunei. It took about 2 hour’s journey from Miri city to Marudi and about 21km from Miri city before the estate road way to Marudi city. Is kind of exploration and experience to have ride on estate road because of its uneven and narrow road, some may even not enough for 2 cars to pass by. It will be suffering as it took more than 1 hour to drive on this estate road to reach to the ferry point.

Estate road way to Marudi

There would be two ferry points where we need to across 2 rivers before reach the Marudi town.
Marudi has its own port where people taking speedboat as their transport. It also has its own airport where it just located very near to the residence.  Seems Marudi has all three kind of transportation in its town: Air, Water, and Land.
The first impression to me is that this little town, a place that is far from the city, giving me a warm feeling. There are lots of shops although all not opening during chinese new year and the road is clean and seems everything tidy and just furnished. It’s a kind of small but a wondeful place to live.

Guang Xiang Ju 广香居 @ Miri Central Market

DSC00653
Guang Xiang Ju 广香居, located at Miri central market, which operated by 7 old people (5 uncles and 2 aunties), if I didn’t miscount. Each of them seem having their own position, 2 cooking porridge and mee, one cutting chicken, one pouring sauce, scallion and preparing for dishes, two assisting, taking orders, serving and collecting plates and money, and one is doing the washing. I would say they are cute and impressed with their energy and memories as they are able to remember all customers orders although the environment is noisy and many customers ordering.

What sold here are: Boiled sliced chicken (白切鸡), porridge, and noodles (including mee, meehun). DSC00649
DSC00650
The main course, boiled chicken or known as 白切鸡, meat not too dry, with some sauce on it, is simple but delicious, Yummy.
DSC00651
Since the stall is selling chicken meat, definitely they are selling chicken porridge. As you can see, the porridge is quite viscous and smooth. Tasty and should have a try on this.
DSC00652
Plain mee hun, my favourite, no too oily, simple but nice.

Lot of people during at night, so if you want to eat the boiled chicken, go early. It start operate at about 7.30pm and I been there roughly at 9.30pm, nothing left. The price is considered cheap, and the boiled chicken, you can order how much money as you like, but usually we will order for RM 5 or RM 6 (for 2 persons).

Restaurant Dragon Waterfront @ Rawang

1-star3

Restaurant Dragon Waterfront, situated inside Rawang residential area, need to drive through house area, only you noticed the restaurant.  So, how we found this restaurant? Actually we were attracted by its banner at the roadside, so we thought to give a try. I guess it was just newly open.

The restaurant seems quite special; it is wooden structure and has a small fish pond at the back. Although its environment seems lovely, but we smell some urine smell once in a while, I guess is from the toilet nearby.

Little fish pond

Despite the unpleasant smell, let’s see how the foods are:

Ha Kou (Small) – fried mantis shrimp with salted egg       RM 12

Did not taste anything like prawn or shrimp, just rough and thick flour plus some salted egg

DSC00635

Steamed Chicken (Small)              RM 28

Smell herb, moderate rating

DSC00638

Hong Kong Choi Yun (Small)        RM 10

Although we ordered small, but it seems too little for that price

DSC00637

He Bai Beancurd (Small) – Fried own made tofu / bean curd and pours some minced meat sauce              RM 10

This was the most satisfied dish for me. Taste good, the tofu is soft and the sauce is good.

DSC00636

Fresh Water Alitia Fish –  Chaozhou steam fish      RM 24

Taste was a bit pale

DSC00640

White rice           RM 1.20 / bowl

Personally feel that the price for a bowl of rice is slightly expensive in Rawang area.

The restaurant is also charging 5% government tax.

Overall, not having good experience there, because the price was not cheap but the foods were not able to satisfy us.

Personal comment: I personally do not like waiter/waitress standing beside and waiting for me to collect my change after I have paid.

Sri Melaka @ One Utama

Usually I will go One Utama, Petaling Jaya for movies while in Kuala Lumpur and like to hunt for delicious foods there. One Utama is a huge shopping complex, has lots of different style and type of restaurants, Chinese, Vietnam, Japanese, Thai, Malay, Western style and etc. This time, we went to Sri Melaka, which at two floors below the GSC cinema (second floor S313).

Curry Laksa

Well, the rice is quite spicy to me, and the curry laksa taste just common, not too special, but the meehun not cooked well so a bit stiff. Price is expensive with the same food comparing with outside restaurants, is because of the location or the brand? But tell frankly, as what I see, the restaurant was not too "crowded" with people compare to others restaurants nearby the Sri Melaka, even during the peak hours, so you should know the popularity of Sri Melaka among others restaurant in One Utama.

Everwin Kopitiam – Laksa & Chicken Mee Suah

3-star2

DSC00660

Laksa and mee suah always are our very first favourite foods and we would want to try in different place, to look for the best mee suah in Sarawak.

Located in Sarikei, within the Everwin Supermarket shop lots -- Everwin Kopitiam 永胜咖啡店. There are many stalls inside the kopitiam, and this time we had try on this: Maggie Stall.

DSC00659

Well, you can see from the photo, there was 2 big prawn, quite fresh plus some fish cakes and slices of fried egg. That is most of the laksa looks like. I would say ok for this, soup taste good, maybe because I like santan.

sarikei2

Chicken Mee Suah, a red vine mee suah!! Big mushroom and soup tast e good too, but the chicken's meat was a bit dry.

The price for these meal:

Laksa  RM4.00

Mee Suah RM 4.50

What I would like to mention here is, the price was a bit of expensive. Kind of surprise, as I though Sarikei's cost of living is lower than Miri, maybe different stall price differently.
