Lai Foong Beef Noodle @ Cheras, KL

4-star2

Lai Foong Restaurant has 54 years histories since 1956. The HQ is one of the stall in Lai Foong Restaurant situated in Jalan Tun HS Lee, Kuala Lumpur, which I have been visited many times since few years ago. Recently, Lai Foong has another branch at Taman Taynton View in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

I like its beef noodles very much, especially it’s soup, as it is tasty with original taste and concentrated. It has mixture of more than ten kinds of medicine herbs, plus its secret recipe, and boiled with the ox bone, make it irresistible and must try, especially those who like to eat beef.

This Cheras branch is very clean, tidy and the restaurant gain grade A from the DBKL for its cleanliness.

Lean Meat and Beef Ball Lai Fun, served in dry  -- RM 5.20

The meat is a bit raw and soft, beef ball is springy and it has original beef flavour. This is my favourite, where I prefer to serve in Meehon.

Leaf Tripe and Beef Ball Lai Fun in Soup – RM 5.00

The leaf tripe was in slices, but had cut it too thin, so didn’t really know how the taste the leaf tripe was.

Fried Keow Teow – RM 4.00

Tasty, even if you just smell, is already irresistible to try it.

X.O. Teh, which also known as three layers teh, as you can see there were three different colours that form into three layers.

There are variety of choices of beef part: Beef ball, lean meat, tripe, beef lam, beef tendon, leaf tripe and mix. Additional on these, some parts from the beef that we normally never try before: Beef tongue, beef intestine, and bull penis. Even noodles, there are 4 types to be choose: Lai Fun, Keow Teow, Mee, and Meehon. You may choose to served in soup, dry, with rice, or without noodles.

Based on my experiences on the HQ and Cheras branch, there seems a bit different in the taste of soup, where the HQ restaurant’s beef soup is thicker in flavour and colours, which I prefer more. However, Lai Foong beef noodle is still one of the best beef noodle that I have ever try.

Laksa @ 28 Food Centre, Miri

DSC00021

28 Food Centre Restaurant located at Jalan Ross, opposite Imperial Hotel, Miri. This time would like to introduce the Laksa from the Nancy Stall in the restaurant.

DSC00014

Laksa RM 5, a bit expensive than others restaurant. It looks nice, but the laksa taste not quite strong, just can considered as so-so.

DSC00016

See, the prawn was quite big, fresh and “elastic”.

Chillies sauce with lime

Overall, the taste of the laksa is moderate, but I do like the prawn and and the way they “decorate” it or in other word, the “appearance” of the bowl of Laksa.

Excapade Sushi, Kuala Belait, Brunei

DSC01306

I love to eat Sushi and Japanese beef noodles, both are my favourite, especially from SushiKin. Been told by friends many Malaysian like to go Brunei for sushi, because is cheaper and delicious than Malaysia sushi restaurant. During weekend, two of us drive all the way from Miri to Brunei – Excapade Sushi in Kuala Belait. It located quite near to Miri, just take roughly 1 hour plus to reach. After pass by the Brunei Bridge which is just near the Brunei immigration checkpoint, turn left you will a big teapot statue at the roundabout, turn into the second junction and then turn left, you will find the Excapade Sushi restaurant.

DSC01302

What I found was most of the cars parking in front of the Excapade Sushi are with Miri car plate number. It was raining day, but the rain stopped before we reach the restaurant. I thought it had been full of customers because heard that is a need to make an appointment if do not want to wait long for seat, but luckily there were just few customers inside.

I was quite excited when I found there is beef noodle in their menu - Sukiyaki Nabe Beef BND 9.00 (Brunei Dollar), and had ordered one to try. Same as SushiKin, using a hot pot in serving, but a bit shocked with semi-raw beef as I usually prefer well cook. Well, is ok for me to have a try on this. Besides the beef, most of the bowl are vegetables and just a little udon, seems like udon is not the main ingredient in this dish. Comparing this with the Sukiyaki Nabe in SushiKin, I of course will prefer the later one (SushiKin), not just because of the taste of the soup, is also due to the beef was cut into slices together with other ingredients: toufu and onion, make it a perfect match, love it indeed.

DSC01310

Another dish was Salmon Tofu Nabe BND 6.00. I would this rather than the beef noodle above. The taste is just nice and with egg, salmon plus toufu, make it delicious.

DSC01309

We just ordered one plate of sushi to try - Salmon Salad Sushi BND 2.50. The size is much bigger than those sushi that I have ever try and it quite yummy too, really impressed me.

DSC01308

Add up all together plus two cups of green tea, make it total BND 19.50. It seems cheap if it is in Malaysian Ringgit, after converting into RM, I still think that it is just almost the same as Malaysia sushi restaurant. But if anyone staying near Brunei or will be going there, Excapade Sushi is really not bad to go for, because the foods are quite good and diffrent choices.
